Hello My Past, Present and Future Students,
You may surprise to see Sir, contacting you without any seminar like occasion in the nearby time. But the reason is so energetic that I couldn’t hold myself a bit without sharing it with you.
You know that past 17 years I am teaching Win32 SDK and COM ( 2 old technologies one from the year 1993 and the other from the year 1995 ). Many taunted me about teaching “outdated technologies”. But I never stopped teaching these, because they are the basis of “Event Driven Architecture” and “The Better Way to Learn C++”.
Everything that is best in Windows is based only on these 2 technologies directly or indirectly even DotNet/UWP/DirectX. I will give full credit to you, who keep on coming to me to learn them and keep my faith alive.
My one of the students Sopan Patil, sent me the link mentioned in this news. First completely read this message and then read the link very carefully.
It seems that, Microsoft, the mother of these 2 technologies, herself putting her head on the reliable shoulder of Win32 again, by burying its latest UWP technology as a response to the sad demise of Windows Phone and Windows Mobile.
Do you Remember what did the caretaker of SKYFALL tell 007 near the end of movie, “If all else fails, sometimes the old ways are the best”. And really it is. That is what the gadget king 007 uses to kill the villain Silva – just a knife !
The old way !! and that is what Microsoft is doing right now !!!
So is this news letting us to stop teaching UWP?
No, not at all. Our UWP coverage will remain as it is. Because it is also good for Windows on ARM like devices and to learn few constructs of new C++11/14.
The point is that, a technology in an OS never dies or outdated until it is itself integrated part of OS itself. Win32 is like that.
By the way, have you noticed the date of the article in the link, May 30, 2019. It is just a coincidence that our regular Win32 SDK/COM batch is starting from next week : June 17, 2019.
God bless you all.
Dr. Gokhale Sir.
